129. Ox eye daisy

Leucanthemum vulgare / the ox eye daisy / Chrysanthemum leucanthemum / is a widespread flowering plant. It is native to Europe and the temperate zones of Asia.

It belongs to the family of Asteraceae. Common daisy, dog daisy, moon daisy and ox eye daisy are the other vernacular names of this flower.

Leucanthemum vulgare blooms from late spring to autumn. The small flower heads not larger than 5 centimeters consists of about 20 white ray florets that surrounding a yellow disc. These grow on the end of 1 to 3 ft tall stems.

The un-opened flower buds can be marinated and used in the same way as capers.

Leucanthemum vulgare is widely cultivated as a perennial flowering ornamental plant. It thrives in a wide range of conditions and can grow in sun as well as partial shade and prefers damp soil.
